Marino Supports Election Integrity

Today, the House of Representatives passed H.Res. 1071, by a bipartisan vote of 279-72, recognizing that allowing illegal immigrants the right to vote disenfranchises and diminishes the voting power of United States citizens.

In 2016, voters in the City of San Francisco, approved a referendum allowing illegal immigrants to vote in school board races, setting a dangerous precedent that conflicts with the federal government's enforcement of measures that distinguish lawful residents and those who lack authorization under federal law to be present in the United States. A recent Public Interest Legal Foundation study showed that jurisdictions with sanctuary policies and practices have a greater likelihood of voter fraud.

Congressman Marino issued the following statement:

"As the grandson of Italian-American immigrants, I support the efforts of individuals who come to this nation, legally, to pursue the American dream. I have tremendous respect for the process of becoming naturalized as a U.S. citizen and the rights and freedoms that are bestowed with it. San Francisco's decision completely diminishes the earned accomplishment of completing the naturalization process. Furthermore, allowing illegal immigrants the right to vote, at any level of government, detracts from the legitimacy of elections and puts our nation at risk from foreign threats and fraudulent voting activity."
